Interchanger (formerly PT Reaper Converter) transfers full sessions between Avid Pro Tools (PTX), Cockos Reaper (RPP), Steinberg Cubase (CPR) and Nuendo (NPR) — any direction. No Wine, no DAW licenses required.
The source format is auto-detected: drop any of the four session files and pick the target. Audio, MIDI, video, surround, automation and timeline structure travel together.
WHAT CONVERTS
- Tracks & mixer — MIDI tracks, audio tracks up to 7.1.2; summing groups (PT Routing Folders ↔ Reaper folder buses ↔ Cubase Group Channels); FX returns; output buses created with correct widths; sends with level, pan, mute and their automation
- Clips — position, length, static and dynamic clip gain, mute, names, colors; fades and crossfades with curve shape, skew and crossfade midpoint
- Automation — volume, pan and mute lanes in every direction
- Surround panning — the Pro Tools panner ↔ ReaSurroundPan ↔ Cubase/Nuendo VST MultiPanner: channel positions including independently placed L/R, divergence, Center %, LFE level and height (Z), static values and automation lanes, byte-calibrated against reference projects
- MIDI — notes, controllers, pitch bend, program change, aftertouch, SysEx, per-track channel, pooled (ghost) parts
- Comping — Pro Tools playlists ↔ Reaper takes and item lanes ↔ Cubase/Nuendo Track Versions, audio and MIDI; clips inside inactive versions keep fades, crossfades, gain and mute
- Musical / tempo-locked (tick-based) tracks follow tempo and meter changes
- Timeline — markers (names and colors), the full tempo map, time signatures, session frame rate
- Video tracks with clips — referenced in place or copied into the bundle
- Routing — Pro Tools hardware outputs ↔ Reaper hardware outs; named buses in the PT I/O Setup; sub-path buses and multi-assign outputs; folder-based routing with full nesting
- Hidden and inactive tracks preserved — or skipped with a switch
MEDIA PIPELINE
- Split-mono ↔ interleaved merge, polyphonic channel mapping via iXML
- FLAC / OGG / MP3 / M4A / AAC / WavPack / AIFF sources decoded where the target needs it; sample-rate mismatches resolved to the session rate
- WAV, AIF, RF64 (>4 GB)
- Standalone (self-contained bundle) or Link (reference files in place) output modes; audio relinking across folders and drives; originals never touched
- Preflight report and a file relink dialog before every conversion
FORMATS & COMPATIBILITY
- Pro Tools sessions from roughly 2014 through 2026 read; written sessions open in Pro Tools 2022 and later
- Reaper 6 / 7
- Cubase / Nuendo: classic RIFF and the 64-bit RIF2 container read; written projects verified in Cubase 10 and Nuendo 15 (height formats open natively from Cubase Pro 12)
Free 2-minute demo on every install. The full user manual (PDF) is on the developer's website.
ROADMAP
Plug-in and virtual-instrument conversion (settings and automation) is the next release line. Edit groups and further formats are under investigation.
