MetaViewer helps you look inside your files.
MetaViewer then collects metadata from multiple sources and presents it in a clean, readable way—so you can quickly understand what a file contains under the hood.
What you can do:
- View common details like dates, authors/creators (when present), device/software tags, and technical properties
- Inspect media files for duration, resolution, FPS, and track information (when available)
- See image metadata such as EXIF/TIFF fields and embedded XMP (if present)
- Check extended attributes (xattr), Spotlight fields, and file identification info
- Generate fingerprints (SHA-256 and optional full hashes) to compare files or verify integrity
- Search, expand/collapse, copy values, and export metadata as JSON
- Works with many file types
MetaViewer tries best-effort extraction for a wide range of formats: images (including RAW when supported), PDFs, audio/video, Office documents, archives, and more. If a file contains little or no metadata, MetaViewer will simply show what’s available.
Everything runs locally on your device. MetaViewer does not upload your files.
