Description

You start a long agent run, walk away, and come back to a sleeping Mac and a half-finished job

You start a long agent run, walk away, and come back to a sleeping Mac and a half-finished job. SleepSleuth keeps your Mac awake for exactly as long as your agent is working, then shows you what the run cost.

It is the only macOS menu bar app that does both. Token trackers do not touch sleep. Keep-awake apps have no idea what your agent is spending.

Ever closed your MacBook only to find it hot and drained of battery an hour later? While macOS is designed to sleep when you tell it to, background processes, hidden browser tabs, active downloads, and long-running development tools can create "Power Assertions" that override your settings. SleepSleuth gives you a dedicated guardian in your menu bar to identify these culprits instantly, keep selected apps and tools awake on purpose, and review your local AI coding token usage and cost.

Key Features

- Real-Time Monitoring: Instantly see whether your Mac is free to sleep or something is holding it awake, straight from the menu bar icon.
- Identify the Culprits: Get a clear list of every app and process currently preventing sleep, with the assertion type and how long it has been active.
- Keep Awake For: Pin any running app or command-line tool, and SleepSleuth holds a sleep assertion on its behalf for as long as it runs. No caffeinate hacks needed.
- Smart Re-Activation: Pinned apps and tools are remembered across relaunches and reactivate automatically the moment they come back.
- CLI Tool Support: Pin command-line tools like ffmpeg or rsync by command name, so every install of the tool (however it was installed) counts as one and survives an upgrade.
- Sleep History: Review a local timeline of sleep-preventing activity, including active and ended assertions with durations.
- Agent Token Usage Card: Optionally track daily local token usage and estimated cost for popular local AI coding tools, shown as a heatmap with per-model breakdowns and customizable model colors.
- Local Source Discovery: Uses standard macOS security-scoped access, only for folders you explicitly authorize.
- Settings Window: A dedicated General, Sleep, and Token Usage settings window (Cmd+,), with each card's gear button opening straight to its tab.
- Lightweight & Native: Built specifically for macOS with minimal CPU and memory footprint. Local data stays local. No telemetry, no bloat.

Visual Status Indicators:
- Yellow icon: Something is keeping your Mac awake (an external app or something you pinned).
- Default icon: All clear. Your Mac will sleep normally.

Why use SleepSleuth?

Macs often stay awake for legitimate reasons, but just as often it is a crashed helper tool, a forgotten tab, or a background development task. SleepSleuth gives you visibility and control over your machine's power state, plus a local view into what your AI coding tools are actually costing you.
