  A DEFENSIBLE REDACTION PROCESS

  1. Deterministic Rules (Always On)
     High‑precision removal of common PII and identifiers, including:

  - Social Security numbers and tax IDs
  - Credit card and account numbers
  - Email addresses and phone numbers
  - Currency and financial figures
  - Dates and signatures

  2. Local AI (Optional)
     Locally hosted LLMs can detect names, organizations, and context‑dependent entities that rules miss—without relying on any external service. AI is never required for core functionality.

     Redactions are reviewable and accompanied by a report that shows what was flagged, where it came from (rules vs. AI), and why. This supports review, QC, and internal sign‑off.

  4. Template‑Friendly Output
     Convert PII into consistent labels (e.g., [address_1], [phone_3]) so forms remain usable and recipients can safely re‑insert data.
