Marine scientists working on coral restoration and biodiversity monitoring face a critical challenge: collecting, categorizing, and analyzing underwater data is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to human error. Based on our findings, SeaLens aims to empower biomarine scientists by automating fish detection and classification, providing counts and species categorizations of fish from underwater footage. This provides marine biodiversity data, allowing the scientists to make evidence-based decisions more efficiently, freeing up time to focus on conservation actions and scaling their impact across restoration sites.
