A Tainted Brand: When Apple Prioritizes Upsells Over Ecosystem Trust

I get the business rationale. SaaS keeps recurring revenue high, but at what true cost? This isn’t a complaint about a monthly fee for Creator Studio; it’s a critique of Apple’s shift away from a hardware-first philosophy. For years, the strength of the Apple ecosystem was the uncompromised out-of-the-box experience. Bundling premium pro tools into a separate standalone suite—the way Adobe or any third-party developer operates—would have been clean and respectable. Instead, Apple injected SaaS upsells directly into native iWork apps like Pages, forcing daily users to navigate constant reminders of paywalled features. It splits the user base and deliberately manufactures artificial FOMO inside basic core utilities. The issue isn't affordability—it's intention. By blurring the line between essential operating tools and persistent monetized upsells, Apple has compromised its core brand identity and reduced its premium, integrated user experience to feel like just another nickel-and-diming platform.

  Worse than last year,

There are important features that were removed from previous versions of Keynote that now make drawing sketches worse, the drawn line and Filler color isolation options were removed now when you select both, there’s only one color swatch that affects both. The App is more stiff and has been an unnecessary hassle to work with.
