Digital Ink

Digital Ink is an iPad art project where every photograph can become a single living pixel.

Import a photograph, artwork or screenshot and transform it into a unique Smart Ink. Each ink carries its own colour, identity, visual interpretation, provenance and evolving biography.

PAINT WITH FINITE INK

Smart Ink is a finite material. Painting moves an ink from its home onto a canvas; erasing allows it to return. Create compositions on zoomable, gridded canvases while preserving the identity of every pixel.

SOURCE MEMORY

During Sacred Transformation, you can optionally preserve a tiny, highly compressed version of the source image—up to 192 pixels on its longest edge.

This Source Memory becomes part of the ink’s biography and can be viewed from its Smart Ink details. If Source Memory is not selected, the original image is not retained as part of the ink.

LEARNING

Smart Inks can be educated using PDF documents. The app extracts concepts and hashtags that become part of their evolving knowledge. Education also creates visible changes in the appearance of an ink.

AUTONOMOUS INKHOME

Sacred InkHome can rearrange inks through its affinity and autonomy system, responding to relationships between their colours and stored memories.

A Digital Ink collection can contain up to 1,000 unique Smart Inks.

OPTIONAL AI FEATURES

Digital Ink includes built-in, offline image recognition that does not require credits.

With your permission, Online Assist can provide a more detailed interpretation. The selected image is sent securely through Digital Ink’s Cloudflare service to OpenAI. Online image interpretation costs 1 credit.

AI Memory Reconstruction uses an ink’s evolving biography—including its memories, learned concepts, relationships and provenance—to create a new visual interpretation. You may also choose to include its preserved Source Memory.

Reconstruction is not intended to reproduce the original photograph. It imagines something new from what the ink remembers and what it has become.

AI Memory Reconstruction costs 10 credits. Credits are available through Apple in-app purchases. Online AI features require an internet connection; the rest of the creative process remains available offline.

PROVENANCE

Digital Ink preserves the identity of each Smart Ink and can generate a provenance certificate containing its history and metadata.
