Remembered, presented by Geelong Cemeteries Trust, is a virtual memorialisation experience, designed to preserve, honour and share life stories across generations. Created to support remembrance, reflection and connection to local history, the app enables visitors to explore memorial locations, discover stories, and engage with places of significance through interactive mapping and location-based technology. The app draws on Colac & District Family History Group’s Almost Forgotten initiative, an extensive research project containing more than 1,800 life stories, historical records and images of individuals interred at Colac Cemetery prior to the 1900s. Through biographies, photographs, historical information, and audio, visitors can experience a deeper connection to the people, families, and community history that shaped the Colac region. Users at Colac Cemetery can: • Explore memorial locations through an interactive cemetery map. • View Life Stories connected to specific memorials. • Search and navigate to points of interest within the cemetery. • Learn more about local heritage and community history. • Experience a new way of connecting with remembrance spaces. Remembered has been designed as both a memorial and educational experience, creating opportunities for reflection, storytelling and community connection while helping preserve important history that may otherwise be lost over time.
